Organ Donation

When you hear the term "Organ Donation" for the first time, the only thing which comes in your mind is obviously, the Death..

Noone is immortal (physically) in this world.. A human being is born to die someday.. Be it an accident, heart failure, brain hemorrhage or dreadful diseases like malaria, cancer, AIDS, tuberculosis, etc. or even old-age; there are various reasons behind the death.. The families of the dead mourn over the death and a funeral is held..

But, if you realize, various organs of the human body still survive under ventilator even after the death of a person.. So, even if you die, your unaffected organs, that is you, are still surviving in several parts of your body.. Then, why not donate it to someone who has a faulty organ and make yourself revive in the life of that person..??

Such a donation of organs and several useful parts of body to the needy is known as ORGAN DONATION...!!

We all love to live our life.. But, have you ever wondered how it is to live a life of death itself..??
Many people suffer from diseases and illnesses wherein they confront organ failure or their certain organs get damaged and stop working someday leading to their death.. Such patients are in dire need of organs and many of them die awaiting th donors..

According to the statistics, about 5,00,000 people die in India every year due to non-availability of organs...!!

A verse in ancient scripture मनुस्मृति says, "Of all the things that it is possible to donate, to donate your own body is infinitely more worthwhile."

A person's death is always followed by a depressed state of family members and relatives and this becomes a crucial decision for anyone to take.. Besides, several orthodox people consider that it affects the funeral procedures and destroys the body as well.. But, here, we must consider that saving someone's life is superior than destroying the lifeless body..

From the entire body, there are few useful organs which can be donated and transplanted to other persons.. Few vital organs include heart, liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs, pancreas, cornea, skin, etc.. Though all of these organs can be donated, the actual useful organs to be donated depends upon the occurrence of death of that particular person.. Hence, not all organs can prove useful always.. The doctors can enlighten your knowledge about it..

Donating organs is equivalent to donating an entire life to someone even after a person's death.. And this is how you can be immortal in a perspective..

By now, if you have made up your mind to donate organs, the most important thing is to inform your parents and close friends about it, as ultimately it is their decision which matters when your death is declared.. So, spend few moments of your life at present talking with your parents and your loved ones about your decision.. Make it known to everyone in your close vicinity..

The next step is to register yourself with an NGO or any hospital regarding your choice of organ donation.. It is not an authorized confirmation of your choice as your family members are permitted to take final decision after your death..

The last step is to maintain an Organ Donor Card issued by any organisation so as to make all others aware of your decision in case they forget about it in later years..

Considering organ donation at an international level, India has 0.08 persons as organ donors per million population (PMP).. This number is incredibly small and insignificant as compared to all other nations (with 10-20 donors PMP)..

According to survey conducted by International Registry in Organ Donation and Transplantation (IRODaT) in 2013, India stands nowhere amongst the top 50 nations with donor count despite of being 2nd populated nation in the world..

Due to awareness of social issues over mass media as well as social media, the youth of India is hopefully realizing such issues due to educational opportunities and knowledge gained by them.. People have started donating organs after its importance is being known..

I wish that a day will certainly come when none of the patients will die due to non-availability of organs..!!
